IF ONLY I KNEW & OUT THERE
‘An abstract exploration of two different aspects of American Life’
Drawing on two different perspectives on American life, Adam Batchelor and Stephen Mellor present their first dual exhibition.
Adam’s work addresses how our understanding of other cultures is shaped by their representation on television, particularly through animation. By manipulating the characters from Charlie Brown and The Simpsons, the work offers an insight into how our childhood experiences shape our opinions of other cultures and in turn, influence the cultures themselves.
Stephens work is rooted in rural America and the remote townships that inhabit the swamps, mountains and deserts. Influenced by the psychedelic movements of the US, he presents a multi-layered, collage of cultures which resist change by holding onto tradition and provides us a view seen through modern, digital eyes.
